Default Toney vs. Peter (Boxing)

On September 2nd, Samuel "The Nigerian Nightmare" Peter and James "Lights Out" Toney will meet in a Heavyweight showdown.

Here are the current odds:

Samuel Peter: -130

James Toney: EVEN

Toney is 38 years old and has a pro record of 69-4-3 with 1 No Contest. 43 of his wins came by KO. He recently fought Hasim Rahman to a Draw and beat John Ruiz for the title (but had the decision reversed after a post-fight test showed signs of steroids). He has been criticised lately for not training seriously and coming into the ring overweight.

Peter is 26 years old and considered the hardest puncher in the sport today. He's 26-1 with 22 knockouts. Despite knocking down Wladimir Klitschko 3 times in their fight, Peter still lost a decision. Many view him as the potential savior of the heavyweight division (he's powerful, dedicated, and leads a very clean lifestyle).

I'm putting $250 on Toney, myself. He's a cagey veteran and doesn't make a habit of getting hit. While Peter is a hard puncher, he's not exactly what I would call fast, and I thought he looked very unimpressive in his bout with Klitschko. I believe Toney will win by decision in a somewhat ugly-looking bout (although, since it's Heavyweight boxing and many hope Peter will be the future of the sport, Toney better get a TKO to keep from getting screwed on the cards).

The odds have adjusted a bit on this fight.

They were:

Peter -130
Toney EVEN

The odds are now:
Peter -145
Toney +115

Personally, I'm still taking Toney to win the fight.

Also, you can bet the length of the fight. Sportsbetting.com has the odds set as follows:

Over 11.5 Rounds: -200
Under 11.5 Rounds: +160

Samuel Peter won the fight by a Split Decision. There were no knockdowns in the fight.

Total 2006 Earnings = $725
