At some online casinos, players can now wager on how many named storms and hurricanes will form in this current hurricane season. Players can bet on the strength of these storms, whether or not they'll make landall, and numerous other option.
Not surprisingly, many victims from last year’s devastating hurricanes have said that they believe wagering on such things is in poor taste. On the other hand, some are betting to win back some of the money spent on home repairs from last year. One site which offers such bets say that they did not offer (and never will offer) any wagers on deaths or destruction. They even go so far as to state that people who live in hurricane-ravaged areas do the most betting on such wagers, since they know more about the subject and stay more informed. My question is, do you think it's in bad taste, or are the casinos simply providing a service for the gambling community? Feel free to discuss. |

I think it's most definitely in bad taste. But at the same time, there are things in bad taste that are entertaining too, and I'm certainly not a prude. Just because something is in bad taste doesn't necessarily mean that it should be outlawed though. (I know that wasn't your question, but that's usually the logical extension of such discussions.)

The only hurricanes I bet on come from Miami.
I saw an article on espn.com the other day, and I think the 'Canes make a run at the title this year. The U rules!!! |
