Yet another question from a newbie, and I realize I need to get Poker Tracker soon...
I'm dealt AKo in the SB, at a 1/2 limit table. I think I played the hand way too aggressively, but I won anyway with a river fold by my opponent. 9 handed, one open limp in EP, one Raise from MP+2, and folds to me. I re-raise, EP calls, MP caps, and both of us call. Should I have re-raised from the blind with AKo? What might you put MP on once he caps? Flop is 8, 8, 3 unsuited. EP checks, MP bets, I raise. EP folds and MP calls. I'm worried he has aces or kings at the moment although he probably would have re-raised me if he did. He probably doesn't have one of the other 8s. Turn is a 9. Check, I bet, call. Hmmmm. River is a queen. I bet out and MP folds. In retrospect I hate the way I played this hand but probably lucked out a win... unless MP also had AK or AQ and folded at the river. Thoughts gentlepeople ? |

This is probably how I play it OOP. Always cap AK pre-flop. That is fine.
There is a good discussion in the "Big Aces, Big Blinds" thread about this kind of thing. The continuation bet with 2 opponents seems good, although I guess the re-raise from the early limper is suspicious. Myself, I keep betting with one opponent left as you did, but I am curious what others will say, as this is a part of my game I need to focus on. Often times, if you keep betting into one opponent like that on a low flop, it is just a passive poker player with something as good as QQ who is afraid of aces or kings. The question is how often? |
