Default The 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event Thread

Phil Hellmuth Jr. out of the main event in six hours. Hellmuth's style is to arrive late to the event, to build up anticipation. I bet he could have used the extra chips he lost on the blinds he didn't play.

Doyle Brunson out already.

Of the celebrities, Shannon Elizabeth and Ron Jeremy have already busted out, but not together. Brad Garrett is gone, too. (Is that the big buy from "Raymond"? Never much liked that guy anyway...or his show.)

Phil Ivey, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and "The Professor" Howard Lederer had strong starts. Each has doubled their chip stack on the first day.

Bunch of other pros start tomorrow.

This staggered system they've started using the last two years is wild. I bet players who come out hot hate it, since they might lose their edge waiting several days for the next round.

That figures.

Just kidding. I actually thought he was pretty funny on Everybody Loves Raymond.

Hate to see Doyle Brunson out already. Sounds like Hellmuth's strategy worked against him. I'm pulling for Daniel Negreanu (assuming he's still in it).

Ron Jeremy busting out? That's classic.

Looks like a who's who of poker stars are going out. It's funny; I'm sure some anonymous guy we've never heard will win the tourney and be one of the most famous poker players in the world. Two weeks can change a life at the World Series of Poker.

I would love to see one or two of the big names make it to the final table. Somehow, that adds credibility when the eventual winner faces that kind of added pressure.

Better yet, it would add to the legend of some poker great, if he (or she) could pull off the win.

Well, the last time I checked, Daniel Negreanu was one of the top chip leaders. Maybe a couple of poker superstars will be able to make it.
Is Gun Hansen in it this year? I have yet to see his name anywhere.

Wink The Bet

I saw "The Mouth" make a significant bet with Daniel on "The Best Damn Sports Show" as to who would go out first. Looks like Mike has planted his size 11 in his piehole again!!
