Default Kill Phil by Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson

I just finished a 2nd reading of Kill Phil by Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson. The book is a strategy guide for no limit holdem tournaments that focuses on an all-in or fold strategy preflop. (Much of the inspiration for this system comes from David Sklansky's chapter about "the system" in Tournament Poker for Advanced Players.)

If you're looking for a game that will improve your general poker game, or that will help you in ring play, then I don't recommend this book. The strategies and approaches outlined in Kill Phil are very specifically geared toward one type of poker game only, and that's no limit holdem tournaments. The authors have clarified and expaned on Sklanksy's all-in or fold strategy, and they go into some detal about how to avoid becoming too predictable or be thwarted by poker players who figure out what you're doing.

They use a baseball analogy to describe how their approach helps to level the playing field with expert no limit holdem players. All-in bets preflop are a long-ball approach to the game; while play after the flop is a small-ball approach to the game. Experts tend to be really good at small ball, so if you remove their ability to outplay you after the flop, you remove a good deal of their advantage.

That makes sense. Take the subtle nuances of poker out of the game and turn it into an all-out street brawl...if I can mix my metaphors.
