Poker Champ Arrested in Raid
Authorities in Kingsport, Tennessee, got more than they expected when they carried out a raid on a local back-room poker game. In addition to firearms, drugs and moonshine, police also brought in a championship poker player who had previously held a WSOP title.
Acting on tips from concerned citizens, police in Kingsport, Tennessee, conducted a night time raid at a residence on Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport. During the course of the raid, 16 individuals were taken into custody, two of which have been charged with felonies, with the remainder receiving misdemeanor gambling charges.
The bookie in possession of the football betting slips was 82 year-old Paul "Cigar" McKinney, of Weber City, Virginia. McKinney won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Seniors event in 2005, becoming the oldest person to win a seniors championship and taking home more than $200,000 in prize money. On his WSOP bio that year, McKinney listed his hobbies as being "moonshine, cigars and young women".
