Deval Patrick said yesterday he's continuing to explore casinos as a way to boost the state's revenues and would be open to agreeing to a hike in pay for members of House and Senate leadership teams, but would want something in return."

MASSACHUSETTS – As reported by the Boston Herald: "Gov. Deval Patrick is launching a formal task force to consider expanded gambling in Massachusetts, giving new hope to efforts to authorize slot machines and the potential construction of a resort-style casino in the Bay State.
"Top administration officials are planning to hold an internal meeting next week to discuss the composition of the task force - which would be the first group with a mandate from a Massachusetts governor to take a serious look at the issue. "…The effort to expand gambling in Massachusetts has found new life amid news of a looming budget deficit and surveys that show residents overwhelmingly support legalization of casinos and slot machines. "…Patrick has said he is concerned about the 'social costs' of gambling, but he has also said he wants to carefully review potential economic benefits. Bay State residents spend about $1.1 billion a year at casinos in Connecticut and slot facilities in Rhode Island…"
