William Hill is the 2nd largest bookmaker in the UK. They also have online casino and poker available on their website, but as of today, not for American players. The US "crackdown" on Internet gambling precipitated this decision on the part of their company. The "crackdown" includes arrests of management from Sportingbet and BetonSports.
I suppose I can't blame them for being cautious, but I'm still more than a little bit surprised at how something as minor and silly as placing a bet on the Internet could be a problem. We've gone to war and ousted a foreign leader now over false pretenses ("weapons of mass destruction"). The US President has all but suspended selected parts of the Constitution in the name of "domestic security", and he's authorized illegal wiretapping of citizens' phones. And the best thing Frist and his cronies can come up with to legislate is whether or not someone is using the Internet to play some poker? I'm reminded of the movie Network. Peter Finch's character points out that he doesn't know what to do about our problems, but he does know that before any kind of change is going to take place, we've got to get mad. I'm starting to get mad. What about you?

I went from mad to furious a long time ago.

The Ritz Club Casino has closed it's online doors completely due to the uncertainty over online gambling, predominantly in the US.
I thought the US was the land of the free? Sounds more like a dictatorship to me!! |
