Online gambling Web site Bodog.com has been down since Monday because of a $46.6 million default judgment obtained by Las Vegas-based 1st Technology in a patent infringement case.
The judgment issued June 13 in Nevada federal court was against Bodog Entertainment Group, S.A., Bodog.net and Bodog.com. According to court filings, software downloaded by the Web site's customers to enable some of the gaming activities infringed on patents held by 1st Technology. 1st Technology is controlled by Los Gatos, Calif.-based Scott Lewis, who has a doctorate in adaptive digital signal processing from Oxford University. Bodog.com entertainment, headquartered in the Caribbean nation of Antigua, is running off a new Web site, newbodog.com, launched Tuesday.
