So, out of curiousity, is it illegal to do online gambling in the U.S. and if it isn''t then what are the ins and outs of it all? How does one place bets, gamble and collect winnings or hand out losses?

It''''s illegal to operate a site for americans, I don''''t think it is illegal for an american to actually play and get paid online, there are and will always be sites who accept americans and evereybody else. This title (found at 31 U.S.C. § 5361-5367) prohibits the transfer of funds from a financial institution to an Internet gambling site, with the notable exceptions of "fantasy" sports, online lotteries, and horse/harness racing.

But seriously, I came across the actual law and cut and pasted a bit of it. Still, if anyone needs cheap representation, give me a call.

Harvey is dead on with his post. It's not illegal to gamble online but it is illegal to transfer funds to and from a gaming site if you are a US citizen. That's my take on it anyway. I'm not, of course, not a lawyer either!
