Woman Wins Bingo Caller Award
Mandy Gorgan is the first lady to receive Britain's Bingo Caller Of The Year award! The 36-year-old mother of four is from Coalville, in Leicestershire. Mandy succeeded in defeating this year's stiff competition, and is extremely proud of her achievement.
Mandy is an old-fashioned, reliable bingo caller. She says, "Bingo is big business these days and it's important the audience can concentrate on your voice." Mandy does not go in for "legs 11" and other "silly" bingo lingo. "You can't mess around with silly lingo, not when there are such large sums of money at stake," said Mandy.
Mandy will be demonstrating her bingo talent at a Las Vegas casino as part of her prize.
Mr. Mark Wilson, assistant manager of the Beacon Bingo Club where the competition was held, told BBC News that "people have still got this stereotype of people using 'two fat ladies, 88', but that has gone out of fashion a long time ago. It's very cheesy." When asked what makes a good bingo caller, Mr. Wilson repied: "someone who can control the session and sounds professional and has a good clear voice."
