Pensioner scoops £10,000 in bingo win
By Laura Kempsell Will spend the cash on her large family A great-grandmother from Luton has scooped more than £10,000 in a bingo win. The 70-year-old woman, who wants to remain anonymous, has been playing bingo for more than 40 years, but when she hit the jackpot it was her first visit to Mecca Bingo in seven months. Her big win came at the Skimpot Road club when she was playing a national game called Afternoon Delight. She won the top prize of £9,690, the regional prize of £1,076 and the house prize of £56, after completing a full house in 42 numbers - the lowest call in all the 470 clubs nationwide. The pensioner said: "I've never had this much money in my life and I don't know what I'm going to do with it. When you haven't got the money you can think of loads of things you want to buy but when you've got the money you can't think what to spend it on. "Holidays don't appeal. I like my own bed! I'll definitely treat the family though. I'll get more enjoyment from that than going on holiday." The woman, who is a widow, has nine children, 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and was "absolutely gobsmacked" to have won.
