An Edmonton woman who was a longtime employee of the Riviera Bingo Association has admitted she embezzled nearly $190,000 from the group.

Lisa Ann Heidebrecht, 38, was supposed to be sentenced yesterday. However, the case was adjourned until July 30 because her defence lawyer was on vacation.

Heidebrecht earlier pleaded guilty to fraud over $5,000.

According to agreed facts, she worked for the Riviera Bingo Association for more than 20 years and was the hall manager, earning $48,000 a year, at the time of the fraud.

Court heard Heidebrecht stole $189,768 over eight months by a variety of means.

She took $41,350 by taking cash to be deposited in an ATM, but not putting all the money into the machine. She also took $120,298 from the bingo revenue, $18,960 from the concession revenue and $9,160 from the lotto revenue.

Court heard Heidebrecht would steal money from the deposit bag after the staff in the various areas had completed their deposits and then replace the weekly deposit summary sheet with a new sheet she had prepared.
